Drawing on interviews carried out with nine Italian literary translators, this study will try to shed some light not only on the important role translators play in the genesis of a translation – which is why they could be considered cultural mediators – but also on the interconnections between the selection, reception and image-building processes of translated literature. By choosing the books to translate, writing reviews and organising events, among others, translators also help construct – together with other stakeholders involved in these phases – cultural images of the Low Countries in Italy.", }
