It is less known that extended metaphors, similes and even fullfledged parables and fables form an integral part of the Old Testament prophets. In this article, a few metaphors and parables from the prophet Amos are discussed in the light of modern theory on metaphor (Amos 3:12; 2:13; 9:9; parables in 3:3-8; 5:18-20). It appears that the richness of the genre attested in the gospels is already represented in Old Testament teaching as Anrede (Westermann). %U https://www.aup-online.com/content/journals/10.5117/NTT1995.3.002.TOMS
