Abstract

In the twenties of the sixth century CE there was a short-lived Jewish kingdom in Himyar. The Jewish king Yusuf declared war on the Christians of the city of Najrân who were supported by the Christian kingdom of Ethiopia, the latter being a long-standing foe of Himyar. The four most important sources for our knowledge of this episode are discussed in this article, as well as the major issues between the Himyarite Jews and Christians.
