Abstract
Abstract
Point of departure are the uses of the verb ‘to be’ in Greek. The author investigates the syntaxis of the statement in Exod. 3:14 LXX, the translation method used in it and the theology of the Greek Exodus (status of other gods; character of revelation, this as appearing particularly from the translation of the divine names). He concludes that the participle does not mean true or supreme being nor (real) existence but means a present being. This being of God has an active aspect: it has to be understood in the perspective of a powerful concern with the people of Israel.
