Aims and Scope

+

NTT Journal for Theology and the Study of Religion (NTT JTSR), formerly known as Nederlands Theologisch Tijdschrift (NTT), is the flagship journal for theology and the study of religion in the Netherlands and a leading platform for academic debate in these fields. Established in 1946, it is the oldest journal of its kind in the country and plays a central role in shaping scholarly conversations at the intersection of theology, religious studies, and related disciplines.

NTT JTSR has a broad and integrative scope, functioning as a forum for interaction across subdisciplines. The journal welcomes contributions from all areas of theology and the study of religion, as well as from the humanities and social sciences that investigate religions and religious phenomena. A core aim of the journal is to foster dialogue across methodological, disciplinary, and thematic boundaries, and to make visible the connections that structure the field as a whole.

The journal regularly publishes special issues that explore current developments and debates in the study of religion. These issues bring together diverse perspectives and approaches, and reflect on the role and future of religion-related scholarship in contemporary academic and societal contexts.

Submitted articles are expected to advance scholarly discussion in their respective fields. The editors consider submissions on the basis of their scholarly rigor, their relevance to a broader academic readership, and their contribution to ongoing interdisciplinary conversations.

The journal uses double-blind peer review and accepts original contributions in English, Dutch and German. The journal appears four times a year and includes, alongside research articles and notes, an extensive section of book reviews.
