Samenvatting
Abstract
This essay discusses the original background of various motifs in PJ’s description of Mary, all of them having to do with sex, birth, purity and ascetism: her being a seven-months’ baby, her eating angelic food, her removal from the temple at the age of twelve, and her perpetual virginity are studied in the light of ancient Pagan, Jewish, and Christian concepts.
