In applied ethics, typically national approaches are often underemphasized, driven by a global, one-size-fits-all conception of applied ethics based on the Anglo-Saxon model. This globalization manifests itself, for example, in the phenomenon of leading English-language international textbooks and journals. However, for the practical relevance and meaningfulness of business ethics, it is crucial to recognize and appreciate its contextuality. As an example, this article examines what is typically Dutch about an institutional approach to business ethics and its relevance. The practical goal is to contribute to the societal function that business ethics fulfills in the Netherlands. The academic goal is to contribute to the epistemology of business ethics, by promoting awareness of its contextuality.
