Abstract
Abstract
There is still unclarity about the people against whom the first two Epistles of John are directed. The article presents a case to regard them as adherents of a specific Christology which saw Christ as a non-human, merely divine being. Historical evidence for the existence of this view can be found in the Acts of John, which must de dated before 150, as well as in Ignatius’ polemics against this view. An exegesis of the relevant passages in the Epistles contains some new insights.
