Samenvatting

Het werknemersperspectief is opvallend afwezig in het huidige technologiedebat rond de opkomst van een vierde industriële revolutie, ofwel ‘Industrie 4.0’. Bovendien is de literatuur omtrent de invloed van nieuwe technologie op arbeidskwaliteit sterk gepolariseerd tussen positieve en negatieve voorspellingen. Het doel van dit onderzoek is om deze theoretische discussie te voeden met empirische data, met de invalshoek van de werknemer als uitgangspunt. Het onderzoek schuift de functie van technologie naar voren als verklarende variabele voor het verband tussen technologie, arbeidskwaliteit en bevlogenheid in Industrie 4.0. Aan de hand van een enquête werden leden van de grootste metaalen textielvakbond in België bevraagd. Uit de resultaten blijkt dat de door werknemers gepercipieerde veranderingen in arbeidskwaliteit op verschillende manieren beïnvloed worden door de diverse technologiefuncties. Deze bevindingen kunnen zorgen voor meer weloverwogen keuzes inzake technologie-implementatie binnen organisaties.
