Samenvatting

Dit artikel onderzoekt de impact van op de redactionele autonomie van journalisten. De studie maakt gebruik van elf interviews met redactieleden van RTL Nieuws om inzicht te krijgen in de invloed van Smartocto, een tool voor publieksstatistieken, op het nieuwsproductieproces. Door middel van kwalitatieve analyse worden de ervaringen en percepties van de journalisten geanalyseerd. Uit de interviews blijkt dat Smartocto wel degelijk invloed heeft op het nieuwsproductieproces van RTL Nieuws. De publieksstatistieken bieden journalisten inzicht in de voorkeuren van het publiek en kunnen worden gebruikt als basis voor redactionele beslissingen. Ondanks deze invloed behouden journalisten echter hun autonomie en hebben ze de vrijheid om hun eigen journalistieke overwegingen te maken. Dit onderzoek draagt bij aan het begrip van de impact van audience metrics op de redactionele autonomie van journalisten. Het laat zien dat hoewel deze gegevens een rol spelen in het nieuwsproductieproces, journalisten nog steeds hun eigen journalistieke keuzes kunnen maken.
