Abstract

Samenvatting

Betekenisgeving via werk is een belangrijk middel in het streven naar authenticiteit en zelfverwerkelijking, maar lijkt slechts voor weinigen weggelegd. Wat is betekenisgeving via het werk eigenlijk en hoe vind je het? Wat is de rol van de organisatie en van het leiderschap daarin? Dit essay probeert de vraag te beantwoorden hoe een ondernemingsdoel dat in lijn ligt met de stakeholdertheorie kan bijdragen aan individuele betekenisgeving en wat daarvoor nodig is vanuit leiderschap. Verschillende ondernemingsdoelen worden beschreven en de relatie met betekenisgeving wordt toegelicht aan de hand van eerder empirisch en theoretisch onderzoek. Ook wordt verkend hoe leiderschap via gesprekken met medewerkers een brugfunctie kan vervullen tussen de organisatie en de individuele beleving door medewerkers van de betekenis en zingeving. Tevens wordt een onderzoeksagenda voorgesteld en wordt besproken wat bestuurders kunnen doen om betekenisgeving onder hun werknemers te bevorderen.
