Samenvatting

In deze studie staat de vraag centraal onder welke werkomstandigheden medewerkers in de ouderenzorg optimaal en duurzaam kunnen presteren. Met behulp van het Demand-Induced Strain Compensation Recovery Model is de relatie tussen drie typen werkkenmerken en duurzame arbeidsprestatie onderzocht: (1) taakeisen, (2) hulpbronnen in het werk, en (3) herstelmogelijkheden na het werk (detachment). Aan de hand van een cross-sectioneel vragenlijstonderzoek zijn vragenlijsten verstuurd naar zorgmedewerkers werkzaam in 24 verpleeghuislocaties. Aan dit onderzoek werkten in totaal 707 respondenten mee. De resultaten lieten zien dat cognitieve taakeisen positief samenhangen met duurzame arbeidsprestatie, en dat deze relatie versterkt wordt door zowel cognitieve hulpbronnen als cognitieve detachment. Verder kwam naar voren dat emotionele taakeisen negatief samenhangen met duurzame arbeidsprestatie, en dat deze relatie vooral aanwezig is in geval van de combinatie van (1) weinig emotionele hulpbronnen en veel emotionele detachment, en (2) veel emotionele hulpbronnen en weinig emotionele detachment. Empirische ondersteuning werd gevonden voor het matchprincipe dat stelt dat interacties het vaakst zullen optreden indien er overeenstemming bestaat tussen het type taakeis, het type hulpbron en het type herstel. Duurzame werkomgevingen in de ouderenzorg gaan idealiter over het handhaven van een gezond evenwicht tussen matchende taakeisen, hulpbronnen en herstel teneinde duurzame arbeidsprestatie te bevorderen.
