Door de snelle ontwikkeling en toepassing van algoritmes en kunstmatige intelligentie (AI) verandert de inhoud en de organisatie van werk. Het gebruik van deze technologieën binnen het HR domein wordt ook wel Algoritmisch HRM genoemd. De snelle toename van gebruik roept allerlei vragen op over de consequenties voor medewerkers en HR professionals, van de gevolgen voor de kwaliteit van werk tot de implicaties die het heeft voor het managen van personeel. Dit redactioneel introduceert het themanummer Algoritmisch HRM, waarin wordt ingegaan op bovenstaande vragen op basis van vijf wetenschappelijke artikelen, drie columns, een essay, een boekbespreking, een boekentip en een in-gesprek-met-de-praktijk. Deze gevarieerde set aan bijdragen maakt duidelijk dat Algoritmisch HRM zowel positieve als negatieve gevolgen kan hebben voor medewerkers en organisaties, en benadrukt het belang van inzicht in de factoren die deze balans naar de gewenste kant doen doorslaan. De uitkomsten hangen af van de keuzes de HR-professionals en organisaties zelf maken, waarbij AI-geletterdheid een cruciale rol speelt in het nemen van weloverwogen beslissingen.
