Abstract

Samenvatting

Deze studie onderzoekt de mechanismen achter online sportweddenschappen en problematisch gokgedrag bij Vlaamse jongeren, aan de hand van de (RAA) en de (SDT). Op basis van een survey onder 1290 jongeren (18-25 jaar) werd er met behulp van SEM-analyses gekeken naar de samenhang tussen attitudes, sociale druk, gedragscontrole (RAA), psychologische basisbehoeften (SDT) en (problematisch) (sport)gokgedrag. Een positieve houding ten opzichte van sportwedden en sociale druk vergroten de intentie om te sportgokken, terwijl meer gepercipieerde gedragscontrole deze intentie juist vermindert. Die intentie blijkt sterk samen te hangen met online sportgokgedrag, wat op zijn beurt sterk samenhangt met problematisch gokgedrag. De psychologische basisbehoeften daarentegen laten gemengde verbanden zien met problematisch gokgedrag: binnen de vriendengroep hangt frustratie over verbondenheid negatief samen met problematisch gokgedrag, terwijl zowel tevredenheid als frustratie over competentie het risico op problematisch gokgedrag lijken te vergroten. In een school- of werkomgeving lijkt tevredenheid over de eigen competenties daarentegen beschermend te werken.
